National Women’s Political Caucus
Endorses Leslie Coolidge for IL-06

2012 Candidate for the House of Representatives committed to Women’s Rights

Friday, May 4, 2012 – The National Women’s Political Caucus (NWPC) proudly endorses Ms. Leslie Coolidge to represent Illinois’s 6th District in the House of Representatives.  Her experience as a Certified Public Accountant has given her a unique perspective on fiscal policy while her background as a member of the middle class has given her the ability to understand her constituents.

“Leslie Coolidge has a unique background and viewpoint that will be beneficial in Congress.  She will use her experience and intelligence to make progress in the House,” said President Linda Young.  “Her position on women’s issues is on point with NWPC, and we are thrilled to see Leslie running for a seat in the House.”

Leslie is an avid environmentalist and believes that the environment must be protected.  She is also committed to protecting women’s rights as well as protecting the American economy and American jobs.

“Ms. Coolidge would be an asset in Congress.  I believe that she will stay true to her values and represent women, NWPC, and her constituents while serving in the House,” said Vice President for Political Planning Donna Lent.

The NWPC is a national, non-partisan, grassroots membership organization dedicated to identifying, recruiting, training and supporting women candidates for elected and appointed offices at all levels of government.

Leslie Coolidge Wins the Primary!

On March 20, Leslie became the Democratic nominee for the Sixth Congressional district with 54.4% of the vote!

Leslie would like to thank all of the volunteers who made her victory possible.  We began with an electorate that was very confused about their new district and unsure there was even a Democratic primary this year.  Thousands of phone calls were made and friends contacted. Without that help, the result might have been different.

Now Leslie's campaign begins to win the general election in November.  Leslie must convince Democrats and independent voters that she offers a better alternative to our current representative in Congress.

Please consider volunteering now to help Leslie.

For Fiscal Sanity in Washington

America's economy is in trouble and Congress is doing nothing about it. Leslie Coolidge believes that members of Congress must put the needs of the American people first and politics a distant last.

Leslie is a CPA who wants to dig into the numbers and find sound solutions for the serious problems facing our country. She was a partner at KPMG, one of the world's largest accounting firms, where she had a 28 year career. Yet, she was also raised by a middle class family who taught her to care deeply for the needs of people and to value education and the environment.

We Need Practical, Pragmatic and Common Sense Solutions

  •  Rebuild America's roads, bridges and schools to put money back into the economy and grow jobs
  •  Create financial incentives for businesses to create jobs and for banks to lend
  •  Support our educational system to keep America on the leading edge of innovation
  •  Protect our environment for future generations
  •  Ensure that wealthy people pay their fair share of taxes
  •  Strengthen the middle class by making prosperity a priority in Congress

Don't endorse Roskam in the fall

Daily Herald, March 4, 2012
While I like all three Democratic candidates for the 6th Congressional District, I support your editorial endorsement of Leslie Coolidge in the March 20 primary election. Each are uniquely qualified to represent the 6th District in Washington, but Leslie has the best chance of unseating the incumbent, Peter Roskam, in the general election.

You wrote of Ms. Coolidge, "she pledged to take positions based on facts and the district’s needs, not on political orthodoxy. That we strongly support."

    Endorsements

  • Chicago Tribune
    February 23, 2012
The endorsement goes to Leslie Coolidge, 52, of Barrington Hills, a certified public accountant who spent 28 years with a Fortune 500 firm. We like her analytical approach to fiscal matters and her willingness to fine-tune ideas — increasing the cap on earnings subject to Social Security taxes, for example, or raising the retirement age — based on the actual numbers.

Coolidge wins our endorsement. Noting CPAs are trained to be problem solvers, she pledged to take positions based on facts and the district’s needs, not on political orthodoxy. That we strongly support.
